Switzerland overhauled its divorce law effective January 1, 2000 and with this amendment it increasingly followed European trends, last but not least by adopting many formal requirements. Our firm’s divorce practice is based on many years of experience and represents clients of both genders. The following aspects are significant.

• Awards of joint custody to both spouses or at least to one spouse with balanced visitation rights is a high priority to us, even though it is merely an aspirational consideration.
• Aspects of property distribution are important, particularly for wealthy couples. Divorce also means “dissolution of a business agreement under increased emotional stress”. Elements or divorce planning and mediation must be taken into account.
• International, transborder divorces present particular challenges.
